We recently completed this new custom design acreage home for a family at Fishers Hill in the Hunter Valley. This home was built with energy efficiency in mind and there are some great timber and stone features inside that make this home special.  When we took these images, the landscaping was still left to do outside, but we thought you might like to take a look inside.

The large 35 square home, comprises of 4 generous sized bedrooms, a home theatre room, several large living spaces, a study, 2 bathrooms, large kitchen with walk in pantry and a laundry/mudroom.

New Home Design

This new home has all of the features you would expect to see in a modern designer home. The home has been thoughtfully orientated on the acreage block, ensuring main living spaces face north and windows are positioned to capture the countryside views. With its skillion roof design, high raked ceilings to living spaces and overhead windows, this home looks grand both inside and out.

Exterior Product Selections

Externally the home has a very modern appeal and is finished using a mix of render and cladding boards to add interest to the façade.

The home owners were very energy conscious when making decisions regarding the design and when choosing products for their new home.  The home is built on a concrete slab, with insulated light weight wall cladding installed to the majority of the external walls. Insulation was also upgraded in ceilings and walls to ensure maximum year-round comfort.

The exterior wall system used on this project is Hebel.  The product performs well thermally, allowing you to keep the house warm in winter and cool in summer and it’s fire resistant too so it’s great for use in bushfire prone areas.

The owners chose to use Rylock Thermally Broken double glazed windows throughout the home.

Urbanline pre-finished composite timber cladding was chosen as a feature on the exterior and it looks great against the render. The product is called Euro Selecta Clad and the colour chosen was dark cedar.

The Colorbond roof, capping, fascia and gutter colour is called Gully and the pergola rafters and garage door are also Gully.  Black window frames were chosen to frame the country views and fixed aluminium shade slats were installed above windows on the exterior to provide shading in summer.

Although the homes exterior is mostly constructed of Hebel and Urbanline cladding, there was a special request from the home owners to include a brick veneer section of wall.  The brick wall allows the owners to kick a ball up against that section of the house without fear of damaging the lightweight cladding.

Interior Features

Inside the home, there are some beautiful custom features in the main living area and the bathrooms.  Natural sandstone cladding is installed on the fireplace, adding an earthy feel to a contemporary modern home.

Custom made timber doors add a touch of warmth to the bathrooms, as do the custom timber vanities and mirrors.

Ceiling heights throughout bedroom areas are a generous 2.7m high and the main living spaces feature high raked ceilings with glazing above, allowing lots of natural light into the room.

The large clear glass internal sliding door is a great idea, it allows the living space to be completely closed off but it doesn’t block any natural light from entering the rooms.  This will be particularly handy to stop noise travelling throughout the home due to those high ceilings and will be very useful when heating and cooling the large living space.

Bathrooms

The bathrooms in this home feature custom messmate timber vanities, mirrors and doors all supplied by the Recycled Timber Factory. The recycled Messmate timber comes from Victoria and is a popular choice for home owners wishing to have custom timber furniture pieces made to suit their new home. A barn style door for the ensuite was also made with the same recycled Messmate timber.

Underfloor heating was installed to the floors in both bathrooms to cater for those chilly winter days.

Heating & Cooling

When it comes to heating and cooling the home, the owners decided to include ducted air conditioning and ceiling fans to keep the home cool in summer.

There is a fireplace in the main living area for the cooler months of the year.

Kitchen

The large kitchen with walk in pantry, features Polytec cabinetry throughout.  Drawers and cabinets are finished in Polytec Blossom White in a matt finish and the black matt shadow line on the drawers really adds a designer feel to the space.

A good sized island bench, with a Caesarstone waterfall edge in Nougat is positioned in the middle of the kitchen. The kitchen has lots of drawer storage and features finger pull style drawer units and Hafele nova soft close drawer fittings.
